| so i've been having a rough go of it trying to find a job that will give me the flexability i need to do church stuff and travel occasionally for music and friends weddings etc. been praying about it a good bit and i have come to the conclusion that i should try giving guitar lessons. thus, if any of you colorado springians would or know of anyone who would like to learn a little bit o' pickin', let me know. i am going to focus on foundational musicality, basic theory, basic chord construction, scales, and improvisation. the basic lessons will be done on acoustic for the sake of learning technique and musicality. church is going well here. the Lord is good to us. we had our first real get together sunday night. mainly just the leadership team for brain storming, but it was also a really good worship service. thanks for the prayers. | | |
| the bizzar but true story of the first weekend of colorado. going to colorado i had secured a room in a house to rent. the home was described to me as being a large two story house that was occupied only by this man and his son though they used part of it as a display room for their remodeling buisness. i was to have the main down stairs bedroom which was to adjoin a large family room containing a jecuzzi (spelling?) and a pool table. i arrived late friday night and was warmly welcomed to my new home. i entered to find everything that had been described to me....but in such a state that it was something from the twilight zone. it was like this bizzar alternate universe that was the worst version of all that had been described to me. though it did appear to be quite a large house from the outside, inside it was not that large. this was amplified by the fact that the room that was supposed to be mine turned out to have a giant crack in the wall where the foundation was gradually caving in. they said they were going to fix that and in the mean time i would have the extra upstairs bedroom...this turned out to be the sons room and was full of his crap and their buisness displays. my things occupied the floor and part of the floor in the next room over which was the dogs. the entire house was absolutly filthy, covered in grime, and it smelled of damp mold and ciggarette smoke (the son and one of their employee's smoke incesently). i didn't want to touch anything. the refrigorator turned out to be broken so anything parshiable had to go in the freezer. saturday morning i went to jump in the shower, took off my clothes, flung open the curtain....and there was a large window with no coverings at all. good morning world...here's eric! later that day the dog, which owns the house, took the opportunity to express his distaste for my presence and his ownership of my room by peeing all over the freakin' floor! right next to my open mandolin case...by God's grace it didn't get any in or on there. at this point i was done. called the guy who is going to be the pastor of the new church (justin...for future reference) and told him what was up. he was pretty upset about the matter because the house had come via a referance from a pastor friend of his. he said he would do something about it. that night i went to the store and just to be nice asked the house guy if i could get him anything. he ran down an entire list of things and gave me nothing for them! i went to bed that night absolutly furious and hardly slept from being so tense. the next morning justin and i attened a church that we are trying to get on board with our project. justin mentioned my situation to the pastor and the pastor in turn mentioned it to the congregation. after the service a guy came over to me and said "hey my wife and kids and i are moving, we are living in our in laws house for now, and you would be more than welcome to live in ours until it sells." talk about awesome. well later that day the stupid dog peed in my room again...i killed it........well wanted to. the next day i went to check out the new place. it was awesome. spotless and really really nice, completely furnished, and completely free. it also has turned out to be 30 minutes closer to where the church is going to be, about a mile from my pastors house, and, as i just found out yesterday, right next to the dangers neighbor hood. so monday after visiting the house i threw my stuff in the car, threw the guy some money, and got the heck out. this week has been so great. the new place is unbelievable. in retrospect i'm extreemly grateful that the other place was as bad as it was because had it been nice i would have beenpaying 300 bucks a month for a room in a house 45 minutes away from where i need to be most of the time. anyway, all that to say the Lord is good. it's been a fun week. meeting with local pastors and our parent church and a couple of guys who are going to be musicians for us. tomorrow i have to join our parent church. i really don't get church membership. if anyone wants to explain it to me please do. anyway, so things is good. don't have a job yet but i'm going to pick up a starbucks application today and i've got an interview for a temporary church sound guy job. it's been an adventure here. i can't get over how beautiful it is here. i walk out in my front yard (quite an effort until a couple of days ago given the altitude) and there is pikes peak staring down at me. it has been above freezing two of the 8 days i've been here. down in to the negatives one night:) i'm gonna be mondo pumped for the spring and warmer weather so i can hit the trails out here. | | |
| hello colorado! it's cold here! i arrived in the springs of colorado last night after a week of driving through the mid-south visiting the homies. it's been a great week and i'm grateful to the Lord for affording me an opportunity like that to decompress and ease into this transition. i've come out here with very little money so i'm pounding the pavment today hunting for jobs and for places to play. if anyone knows any cool places to play music here please let me know! i'm mondo stoked forthe being here though. this place is amazingly beautiful. thanks for everyone who put me up this past week and to everyone who prayed for safety and inspiriation for this trip. | | |
